Five-Lined Skink (Plestiodon spp.).)   There are four species of species of skink (genus Plestiodon) in North Carolina. One lives in the western part of the state, the remaining three (various species of five lined skinks) are widely distributed throughout the state. They are typically identified by relative numbers and positions of scales under the eye and on the ventral side of the body. My gut says this is P. fasciatus, the Five Lined Skink rather than the Southeastern Five Lined or the Broadheaded.
