American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis)

The American Goldfinch is widespread in North America and breeds from coast to coast across the northern two-thirds of the United States and southern Canada. They occur in large numbers in the winter in North Carolina and breed over most of the state. It is a very late nester, waiting until Jul and August for most of its reproductive activities according to the NC Bird Club.
